Contemporary Jewelry
Many artists have chosen jewelry as a means of personal expression and communication. The artist, questioning about his environment and his time, therefore creates works of art, which by being worn, amplify their significance. A particular relationship is established between the person who wears it, the piece itself and the viewer. Confronting our perceptual traditions and distinguishing itself from commercial, craft and sacred jewellery, these creations find their place at the forefront of what will become accepted as tomorrow’s everyday norm.
Through diverse collections and exhibitions, Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h encourages visitors to cast a new eye on jewellery. Much more than simple decorative objects, the jewellery presented is indeed the result of an exploration of both form and content. As in all authentic art, pieces of jewellery can therefore move, seduce, disturb, or provoke reflection. Audacious and engaged, the creations of those artists testify to the diversity of discourse and ideas, which characterises the art of our time.
About Noel Guyomarc’h
Winner of the Prize Charles-Biddle 2023, Noel Guyomarc’h, originally from Brittany, France, moved to Montreal in 1988. In 1996, after experience as an assistant in a Montreal jewelry boutique, and trained in jewelry making at the Saidye Bronfman Arts Center, he opened his own gallery dedicated to contemporary jewelry. Acting as curator, presenter, promoter and advisor, he has organized more than 175 individual or group exhibitions, national and international, presented at his location, in museums and galleries in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. A regular guest jury and lecturer, he is also an appraiser for the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Chairman of the board of directors of the École de joaillerie de Montréal from 2004 to 2011, he has been leading successful creative workshops since 2010. A member of several associations dedicated to the discipline of contemporary jewelry, numerous articles have appeared on his various activities.
Since January 2024, he serves on the board of directors of Art Jewelry Forum, an American organization dedicated to contemporary jewelry.
