From the 3rd to the 6th of October, 2019, Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h will be present for the very first time at the Foire d’art contemporain de Saint-Lambert, with a selection of artists from the gallery. The Foire d’art contemporain de Saint-Lambert, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is one of Quebec’s major contemporary art events, attracting artists, gallery owners and collectors every year. In addition to the independent artists exhibiting their work, a contemporary art gallery is invited each year to provide a showcase for the artists it represents. Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h’s invitation marks the first time contemporary jewellery will be on display at the FAC de Saint-Lambert.

In addition to running his gallery, which offers a varied programming every year, Noel Guyomarc’h acts as curator, diffuser, promoter and advisor. His expertise in contemporary jewellery is unparalleled in Canada, and his contribution to the jewellery field is well recognized world-wide. Having enjoyed significant international exposure for several years, the gallery sees this invitation as a real recognition from the artistic community in Quebec, where it has been located since 1996. After having participated in various international events, in Paris, Barcelona, West Palm Beach, New York, Chicago and Seoul, to name a few, this presence at the FAC de St-Lambert will indeed be the gallery’s first participation in an event taking place in Quebec.

A real vehicle for artistic expression and the communication of ideas, jewellery often has difficulty being received on an equal footing with visual art, which is why this participation in the FAC de Saint-Lambert is so crucial. Just like artists working with other mediums, those who have chosen contemporary jewellery offer various questionings about their epoch, society and environment. Their work reveals an intimate knowledge of materials, which are often treated in a transgressive and provocative manner, disrupting our current perceptions of jewellery in its traditional form.

Contemporary art enthusiasts visiting the FAC de St-Lambert will be able to sharpen their eye as they discover the work of various artists who have chosen jewellery as a means of expression, and whose formal, material and conceptual research is reflected in complex, powerful and avant-garde works.
