Elizabeth Boyd Hartmann
Elizabeth Boyd Hartmann is a Contemporary Jewelry Artist from Detroit, Michigan. She began her studio arts education at the University of Michigan, where a semester abroad led to her earning a BA in Jewellery Design from Central Saint Martins in London, England, where she graduated with a First Class degree with Honours. She returned to Michigan to complete her BFA at the University of Michigan and in 2009 completed her MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
As a Detroit native Elizabeth’s work is inspired by the anatomy of industrial buildings as a means to explore order, process, and the possibilities of systems inside the buildings. The work is about process: following the same procedure of the assembly lines, assembling individual parts before constructing the whole. The work has become a calming reflection of the industry that inspired it, focusing on repetition of form and multiples.
